Alan has been writing plays since 2005 and in that time he has created a number of one act and full-length pieces, ranging from farce, to pantomime, cartoon thrillers, to absurdist comedy.
He premieres the majority of his material at the ‘Beaufort Players’, his local drama group in Ealing. This gives him a chance to test and refine each script before he submits it for publishing. Two of the pieces he directed with the group (‘Erica and Me’ and ‘Quite a Buzz’) went on to win ‘best original play’ in the first round of the ‘All England Theatre Festival Competition’. |
By day he works in children’s television and has developed and co-created a number of successful series for the BBC, including ‘Space Pirates’, ‘Nuzzle and Scratch’, ‘Kerwhizz’, ‘Zingzillas’, ‘The Adventures of William Whiskerson’, ‘Totally Rubbish’ and ‘Get Squiggling Letters’. He has also scripted for many of these shows and enjoys the contrast between writing for TV and stage.
Alan is also a trained animator and has designed a lot of the characters for the different series he has worked on. His interest in this subject and his experience of working in a creative industry is explored in his one act play ‘Badly Drawn’.
He is a keen comedy writer and particularly enjoys writing farce.
