About Pat Pat qualified as a teacher in 1979 and originally worked as a Physical Education and Dance specialist in Mid Wales. She then re-trained in 2013 with LAMDA and started MASH-UP ARTS, running drama, dance, singing and poetry workshops for schools and community. Pat completed a maternity cover teaching Drama at her local High School in Welshpool in 2014, and currently works part-time teaching English in Llanfair. She lives in the small village of Llangynyw with husband Mike.
Pat gained a Distinction in the LAMDA Bronze level Speaking Verse & Prose, and is working towards her Bronze Acting medal. Pat regularly reads her poetry at open mic nights in Welshpool, Chester, Wrexham, Ludlow and Shrewsbury. She self-published her first anthology of poetry and essays, 'Flux', in 2015 |
Why Pat writes Pat first started writing both poetry and short drama texts in order to satisfy her need for suitable material for her MASH-UP ARTS sessions. She then 'caught the bug' and found herself turning more and more to writing! Pat likes to focus some of her drama writing on topics that resonate with young people. Although there is an abundance of full-length plays for youth drama groups to perform, Pat feels there is a lack of material that challenges young people and which can be used in a more educational context. Pat also writes one act plays for adults and enjoys experimenting with quirky and unusual themes. Many of Pat's pieces require a minimum of set, costumes and lighting, and can be put on in class or in other informal spaces. |
