Daniel Krueger taught English Literature in the Minnesota (with a particular fondness for pre-twentieth century writers) and also spent a year teaching English in China. His desire to stage nineteenth century temprance melodramas in schools was handicapped by casting: the old scripts, written for professional companies of the era, are dominated by male parts, whereas school drama tends to attact more girls. His solution was to create his own script. The result was 'Faith, Hope and Bertha', a melodrama with traditional routes, but a few modern touches. |
