Carl Zeitler has always enjoyed writing, even from the days when he grew up in St. Joseph, Michigan. He often wrote stories during his days in elementary school and especially during the summers. Zeitler moved to Oak Park, Illinois in the middle of fifth grade and lived there until after he completed college. He attended Southern Illinois University and received a Bachelor of Arts in English/Creative Writing. While at SIU, Zeitler became a member of Sigma Tau Delta, an International English Honors Society. |
After graduation, he attended Northeastern Illinois University, where he received an Elementary Education Certification and a Master of Arts in Reading. He is a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an International Honor Society in Education. Zeitler has worked with children in a variety of educational settings since 1989, including 11 years at the YMCA, 4.5 years as a high school special education teacher assistant, five years as a Kindergarten teacher, and 13 years as a Reading Specialist. He has taught a drama club at his current school for nine years, where students perform staged readings of short plays that he writes and directs. |
Zeitler became involved in local theatre in 2003 when he appeared as Lenny in "Rumors" at Joliet Drama Guild. Since then, he has appeared at a variety of Chicago area theatres in numerous productions, including "Of Mice and Men" (Lennie), "The House of Yes" (Anthony), "Closer" (Dan), "Over the River and Through the Woods" (Nick), "The Odd Couple" (Felix), "Glengarry Glen Ross" (Aaronow), "Barefoot in the Park" (Paul), "Ravenscroft" (Ruffing), "The Taming of the Shrew" (Petruchio), "Much Ado about Nothing" (Benedick), "Boy Gets Girl" (Tony), "Sabrina Fair" (Linus), and the title roles in "Dracula" and "Macbeth." |
Zeitler wore additional theatrical hats over the years. He served as a producer on several productions at different area theatres. He made his directing debut with The Chanooka Center Stage Theatre Company with "Sure Thing." He wrote and directed "And Then What?" at GreenMan Theatre Troupe for their production "After the End of the World." He has written or co-written ten dinner theatre murder mysteries. He wrote and directed "Reflections and Perspectives" for Elgin Theatre Company at the Elgin Fringe Festival. "Relationships in Progress" debuted at Gallery Theater in West Chicago, Illinois September 25, 2015. Zeitler most recently co-wrote, co-directed, and co-produced "Seasonal Ties" for WT Productions. |
