The success of the weekend's event is threatened by the arrival of Andrew's oldest friend, Reivers Fenn, professional gambler, lothario and all-round liability. The chances of Reivers failing to be an embarrassment recede as not one, but two, of the women from his past turn up in the village. While one would rather forget that she ever knew him, the other has chosen not to forget that he owes her a lot of money.
